As you’re
probably aware, yesterday there was a terrible terrorist attack in Manchester. A
man committed suicide while exploding a device inside Manchester’s Arena, where
Ariana Grande had just finished a show. More than 20 people died and 59 were
injured from this disaster. The arena was full of 20.000 kids and teenagers and
they were the target of the explosion.
Kids.
Teenagers.
Young people.
School students.
Probably college students.
This was a terrible shock for everyone but what I witnessed on Twitter was heartwarming and it filled me with hope. During the day after the attack, all I could see on Twitter were messages of hope, love and compassion. People sharing photos of someone’s friend who was missing after the show, trying to help however they could from a long distance. I even saw a story of a girl who didn’t know where her friend was and because people shared it so much, a guy tweeted her back saying she was with him and his friends and their hotel and her phone had died so they let her stay with them!
But not
everyone had the same happy ending… a little girl called Georgina had tweeted a
long time ago saying she couldn’t wait to see Ariana Grande on her Dangerous
Woman Tour (“i miss you sooo much - can
wait to see you on the dw tour, its gonna kill me”). She was one of the
first confirmed deaths. She lost her life on the day she waited so long for.
22 of
20.000 people left their homes this Monday to go to such a big concert never
knowing that they wouldn’t even leave the Arena. It was their last moment,
their last time. There’s no possible explanation for this. And besides the
tragic death, the only positive thing I can think of is that they died after
watching their idol perform. They hopefully died happy with what the show they
had just witnessed.
Reading all
those tweets and writing this filled my eyes with tears. ´
This makes
me think that there is no such thing as ‘tomorrow’ or ‘today’. There’s the ‘now’.
There’s ‘this moment’. The exact moment you’re reading this.
So, do me a
favor and go live your life to the fullest, go tell your loved ones that you
care about them, do what you’ve always wanted to do! Do it! Do it now! Do it
today! Love yourself and whoever is sitting right next to you!
Don’t live
for ‘then’, live for ‘now’.
